A bstract A case is described in which active rheumatic myocarditis was found at autopsy in a 77‐year‐old man. Although he had been admitted many times to the V.A. Hospital during a period of about fourteen years, at no time did the history, physical examination, roentgenograms, electrocardiograms and laboratory determinations arouse any suspicion of the presence of rheumatic heart disease.
