A bstract Intragastric color photography has been performed routinely for approximately ten years at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute by the use of 1) directed photography, with the intra‐ or extragastric camera attached to a gastroscope, and 2) blind photography, with only the intragastric camera in the inflated stomach. The value of the blind photography method in the early diagnosis of gastric cancer is now being assessed. Direct photography is firmly established as a method for recording the gross features of neoplastic lesions, for evaluation of equivocal findings, and for the training of endoscopists. The ability to take color pictures of the interior of the stomach may in time improve the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer.
