A bstract The author reviews the historical evolution of geriatric nursing in this country from its earliest beginnings to the present, with a focus on the work being done in this area by the Geriatric Division on Nursing Practice of the American Nurses' Association—the professional organization of registered nurses. A discussion of trends in geriatric nursing and of changes in geriatric nursing practice is included. A plea is made for more cooperation between doctors and nurses in plans to improve the care of the aged.
