A bstract A case is presented of carcinoma of the sigmoid in a 92‐year‐old man. The tumor, which almost completely occluded the lumen of the bowel, was removed surgically and a two‐layer, end‐to‐end anastomosis performed. No metastases were evident. Recovery was good and the patient is well at present—more than a year later. This is an example of good prognosis for control of cancer in a very old patient who was able to withstand a major surgical procedure.
