A bstract : In a double‐blind study, diphenidol was compared to placebo in 39 patients with vertigo from various causes. Fifteen of 19 patients taking diphenidol (dosage, 25 mg four times daily) obtained good or excellent relief of vertigo, whereas only 5 of 20 patients taking placebo obtained this degree of relief (P < .01). No side effects occurred in this series, but there are reports of such effects in the literature. Therefore, diphenidol should be used only under conditions of strict supervision.
