A bstract : Twenty‐one ready‐to‐admit applicants to a geriatric home participated in three preparatory group programs (7 members each), designed to alleviate their anxieties about entering this large, sometimes frightening setting. Friendships were made and morale was fairly high in each of the groups. After admission, member sought out member. These applicants seemed to have more personal responsibility to adjust to the home, to stay well and to assist each other than did unprepared applicants.
