In their paper “ C opy number variations in 6q14.1 and 5q13.2 are associated with alcohol dependence” L in and colleagues report on the association between alcohol dependence and 2 duplication CNV s in the genome sequence, one containing 8 genes within its boundaries and another that contains no genes. In this commentary, I point out some of the opportunities and challenges that arise from such a finding.
