SUMMARY A new simple method for estimating the number of individual cells per milliliter in suspensions of filamentous microorganisms is described. This 2‐part procedure utilizes a standard microscopic counting chamber and is independent of filament length or individual cell size. A statistical analysis of the method is also presented.
