SUMMARY The generation time of Eudorina and the time required for a male clone to produce sperm packets decreased with increased light intensity. Nutrient levels were not limiting for either process at the concentrations used in Volvox medium. Effects of various transfer schedules are discussed. A dialyzable substance which induces sperm packet formation was detected in medium in which Eudorina was grown. Methods for the preparation and assay of this substance are described.
