SUMMARY A new forma of Peridinium penardii (Lemm.) Lemm. (Dinophyceae) is described from Clear Lake, California, based upon the morphology of a theca. The forma californicum Javorn. is believed to be a connecting link between P. penardii and P. berolinense Lemm. A nomenclatural survey of the species, as well as a key to its formae, are given.
