SUMMARY Living gametophyte filaments of Desmarestia were discovered embedded in the tissue of the sea pen Ptilosarcus gurneyi. This may be the first record of the collection of a gametophyte of Desmarestia from nature. Sporophyte plants were derived from the cultured gametophytes.
