SUMMARY There is no significant difference in the DNA content of the oval, fusiform, and triradiate cell types of Phaeodactylum tricornutum, suggesting that they do not represent an alternation of haploid and diploid generations. The triradiate cells have a shorter generation time than the oval or fusiform cells.
