SUMMARY Staurastrum sebaldi var. ornatum from the surface plankton of Sasumua Reservoir serving Nairobi in Kenya, Africa, showed remarkable variability in its symmetry and its many dichotypical specimens. The cause of this extensive variability is unknown.
