Summary: : Phenytoin (115 mg/kg) was given orally to rats in order to determine serum concentration levels of the drug. It was found that the peak concentration in serum was 8 μg/ml 1 h postadministration, with little variation being noted for up to 8 h. The relevance of these findings in terms of behavioral studies is discussed. Key Words: Phenytoin–Serum concentration. RÉSUMé De la phenytoine (115 mg/kg) àété donnée à des rats par voie orale afin de déterminer les concentrations sériques de la drogue. On a trouvé un pic de concentration dans le sérum a 8 u.g/ml une heure aprés Ľadministration, et on a noté peu de variation jusqu'à la 8éme heure. Ľintérêt de ces données pour des études de comportement est discut é. RESUMEN Para determinar las concentraciones séricas se administeró fen‐itoina oral (115 mg/kg) a ratas. Se encontró que el pico de la concentrateón en suero fué de 8 μg/ml a la hora de la administratión con escasa variatión “urante las 8 horas subsiguientes. Se discute la importancia de estos hallazgos, en tértninos de los estudios del comportamiento. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Phyenytoin (115 mg/kg) wurde Ratten oral gegeben, urn die Serum Konzentration des Medikaments zu bestimmen. Die max‐imale Konzentration des Serum betrug 8 μg/ml und trat eine Stunde nach Gabe auf: sie hielt mit geringer Variation bis zu 8 Stunden an. Die Bedeutung dieser Befunde für Verhaltensstu‐dien wird diskutiert.
