Summary: A case of severe valproic acid poisoning with coma and insufficient respiration is reported. The clinical condition and EEG changes are presented. The patient recovered completely, and the toxicity of sodium valproate to the brain and the liver in severe intoxication is discussed. RESUMEN Se presenta un caso de intoxicación severa por ácido valpróico con coma e insuficiencia respiratoria y, en especial, la situación clínica y los cambios en el EEG. El enfermo se recuperó total‐mente. Se discute la toxicidad cerebral y hepática del valproato sódico en casos severos. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Bericht eines Falles einer schweren Valproinsäurevergiftung mit Koma und Ateminsuffizienz. Das klinische Bild und die EEG‐Veränderungen werden mitgeteilt. Der Patient erholte sich vollständig. Die Toxizität des Natrium Valproat für das Gehirn und die Leber bei schweren Intoxikationen wird diskutiert.
