Kindling Phenomenon: Impairment by Auditory Stimuli

Summary: By coupling kindling stimuli with tones, it is shown that kindled epileptiform activity is not easily classically conditioned such that it can be evoked by an auditory stimulus. On the contrary, a tone presented 400 msec before and during the kindling stimulus impedes the rate of kindling. RÉSUMÉ Le couplage Ďun stimulus Ďembrasement (kindling) avec un son montre qu'une activité eapileptiforme par embrasement n'est pas aisément conditionée suivant le modèle classique et ne peut done être provoquée par un stimulus auditif. Au contraire, un son produit 400 msec avant et pendant le stimulus Ďembrasement empêche la survenue du phénomène Ďembrasement. RESUMEN Emparejando los estiamulos condicionantes con los tonos, se demuestra que una actividad epileptiforme condicionada no lo es tan fácilmente, según el método clásico, hasta el punto de que pueda ser evocada por un estímulo auditivo. Más bien al contrario, un tono que muestre 400 msec antes y durante el estímulo condicionante, interfiere con la frecuencia del con‐dicionamiento. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Verknüpft man die Kindling‐Reize mit Tönen, so läßt sich zeigen, daß die hervorgerufene epileptiforme Aktivität nicht einfach im klassischen Sinne derart konditioniert wird, daß sie durch akustische Reize ausgelöst werden kann. Im Gegenteil, ein Ton, der 400 msec vor oder während des Kindling‐Reizes appliziert wird, vermindert die Kindling‐Quote.
