SUMMARY Seventy‐eight patients with petit mal persisting after the age of 20 years were studied. At the age of 20 years the chances of a patient with petit mal ceasing to have attacks in the subsequent 10 years was about 1 in 2, but by the age of 40 years it was only about 1 in 3. Petit mal status and grand mal were much more likely to occur in patients whose petit mal persisted.
