SYNOPSIS Four cases of idiopathic stabbing headache subjectively perceived as lasting several seconds are reported. The classification of the International Headache Society suggests that these headaches typically last “a fraction of a second”. The perception of such brief pains may be difficult to quantitate and, therefore, the duration of the headache should not be used as a strict diagnostic criteria.
