One of the concluding suggestions: "x-rays of any type may not be necessary in the absence of trauma" seemed to exclude internal trauma. Chronic internal traumatic effects are often revealed radiographically. Temporomandibular joint radiography might be indicated if the following signs and/ or symptoms are present: Interferences (sounds, sensations, abnormal jaw movements), pain, acute realocclusion, restricted movement. X-rays may not be needed if it is a rare pain/dysfunction occurrence and reasonably ascertained (clinically and by history) to be myogenous.
