A Wellness Program in the Treatment of Headache

SYNOPSIS The development of a wellness program for the treatment of headache at the Headache Center of theMenninger Foundation progressed through a series of steps based on research and clinical experience. Initialfeedback from participants suggested that some positive changes were started because of the program butthat the program did not help maintain such changes.Wellness is defined and is described in its possible applications to the treatment of headache. Traditionalbarriers to the clinical employment of such applications are also described. A survey of the literature exploresthose barriers and possible reasons why such barriers need no longer interfere with employing a wellnessprogram in supplementing existing treatment.Recommendations are given based on the survey of literature and clinical experience.
