The modification of nervous system function by cell replacement and the introduction of heterologous genes are being developed as possible therapeutic approaches in degenerative diseases of the nervous system. The use of cellular transplantation in the nervous systemof patients with neurodegenerative diseases will be reviewed with an emphasis on Parkinson's disease.
