Patients with various forms of schizophrenia were analyzed in this study. Lumbar CSF was collected for fractionation of middle molecular weight substances with simultaneous tryptophan determination. Middle molecular weight substances could not be detected in CSF by measurement at 254 nm. Tryptophan analysis in CSF did not provide any relevant information concerning pathogenesis.
