In this paper experimental results relative to human plasma ultrafiltration by means of artificial flat sheet membranes (RP‐6 hemofilters, from RhBne Poulenc) are discussed. The selectivity of the membranes toward radio‐labelled chemical species with various molecular weights (280–60,000) during the plasma ultrafiltration has been determined. Significant changes in membrane rejection, particularly for species with lower MW, have been observed that are attributed to concentration polarization effects. These phenomena may explain clinical observations.
