Arthritis and poor mental health are 2 of the most common causes of disability in the United States. This study finds that poor mental health is more common in adults with arthritis than in adults without arthritis, and suggests that adults with arthritis who are younger, have lower socioeconomic status, have chronic pain, are physically inactive, or who have activity limitations may be at higher risk for having poor mental health. Mental health is an important component of overall health and should be addressed when seeing health care providers for arthritis management.
