I've had bad experiences with putting patients back on PD after having had to remove their catheters for resistant peritonitis. It's my impression that removing the catheter when the infection is active (i.e., high cell count) is less likely to be associated with successful resumption of PD than is catheter removal with inactive peritonitis (i.e., low cell count). Is this true? What's known about this topic in general?
