A 50‐year‐old, generally compliant, male chronic hemodialysis patient has persistent severe r> 8 mg/dr) hyperphosphatemia despite therapy with substantial doses of aluminum phosphate binders and compliance with a low phosphate diet. Since he has X‐ray evidence of hyperparathyroidism and marked elevations in serum parathyroid hormone, I wondered whether and to what extent bone sources of phosphate might contribute to the hyperphosphatemia. Are there any data available on this question?
