Twenty postpartal women were shown videotapes of their second stage labors and simultaneously interviewed. During separate interviews, their 25 caregivers were also shown the videotapes and interviewed. The interviews were analyzed for major themes, one of which was sharing information during labor. Although women and caregivers appeared to agree about what information laboring women require and how it should be given, caregiver perceptions of the quality of their information giving were more positive than mothers' perceptions. Many women wanted more informational support, especially in alleviating unvoiced fears about their baby's health. (BIRTH 20:3, September 1993)
