In the wake of the Surgeon General's Report, Breastfeeding & Human Lactation, interest in lactation counseling has grown. University‐based clinical and training programs have expanded, as has the private practice of lactation counseling. Lactation counselors counsel women with breastfeeding problems, give in‐service training programs, provide liaison services with employers and community agencies, and carry on training programs for lactation counselors.
