The Maternity Center at El Paso, Texas, opened its doors in August, 1976, with three clients. By December, 1978, 560 women had begun labor under the care of midwives associated with the center. Five hundred and eighteen gave birth at home or in the center and the remainder delivered in an El Paso or Juarez hospital. A description of the services of The Maternity Center is provided, as well as pregnancy outcome statistics from the first 29 months of operation.
