In connection with the description of a recent find (from Örsjö) of a mammoth tusk in Scania, Sweden, the stratigraphical conditions for two older Scanian (Arrie, Lockarp) finds are discussed. All these have been found in glaciofluvial deposits formed during different phases of the main Weichselian glaciation. These three Scanian finds together with one find from Bohuslän (Dösebacka) have been radiocarbon‐dated. A revised extraction method is described in detail. The radiocarbon ages obtained range between 36,000 and 13,300 B.P. Other finite mammoth dates from Europe and Siberia are compiled for comparison. The distribution of the finds in North Europe in relation to the chronology of the Weichselian Stage is discussed. Comments are made on the extinction of the mammoth.
