In order to make earlier diagnoses and to start the treatment of dementing diseases, the education of general practitioners (GPs) is important. We developed the training program for GPs concerning diagnoses, treatment and management of dementia, mainly Alzheimer's disease. The contents of the program consist of the role of GPs, essential knowledge of dementia symptoms, how to recognize the dementia patients, how to interview patients, how to assess medication requirements and how to explain the disease and treatment to the patients and their families. The program included video presentation and simulated patients as well as flip boards.
