Summary: The oral use of a synthetic methyl ester analogue of prostaglandin El (misoprostol) prior to suction curettage for therapeutic abortion in early pregnancy is reported. Misoprostol was found to be an effective, inexpensive and safe agent for preoperative cervical treatment.
