EDITORIAL COMMENT:Occasionally designation of sex of the newborn infant can present difficulties. Failure to promptly seek the opinion of a paediatric endocrinologist can result in avoidable problems in management. Dr Hutson was asked to prepare the following statement to inform readers of the approved protocol for management of these infants.
