Summary: A successful Statewide audit of Obstetric and Neonatal data has operated in Tasmania since 1974. The experience and goodwill gained from the conduct of the survey has been used to establish an audit of all hospital admissions in the State for gynaecological complaints. This paper outlines the methods used in setting up the survey, and some of the results of its first full year of operation to indicate the scope and potential of such a study.
