Summary: A modified technique of Shirodkar cervical cerclage is described; 28 patients had 33 pregnancies with such a suture inserted after 12 weeks' gestation. An overall fetal survival of 93.9% showed a significant improvement (p < 0.001) over that obtained in the previous pregnancies without cervical stitch. The operation is safe for both mother and fetus.
