Summary: Endometriosis was induced in 20 rats. Treatment by diathermy was compared to treatment by microsurgical resection of endometrial implants. No significant differences were found between the 2 groups regarding ovulation, nidation index or pregnancy rates but significant difference in the extent of adhesion formation after surgery was evident. There were fewer adhesions in the microsurgical group. As the adhesions here were periuterine (and not peritubal as in the human) this could explain the lack of impact on the actual fertility of these rats.
