Summary: Amniotic fluid pre‐albumin and retinol binding protein levels were assayed in normal pregnancies and in those complicated by Rhesus isoimmunization, maternal diabetes mellitus, and intra‐uterine fetal growth retardation ranging from 35 to 40 weeks' gestation. Only pregnancies complicated by severe erythroblastosis demonstrated any significant change in amniotic fluid pre‐albumin levels (P < 0.001). No retinoi binding protein was detected in any of the amniotic fluid samples tested.
