Summary: The incidence of new cases of syphilis diagnosed after routine antenatal screening at a Sydney teaching hospital between 1975 and 1979 was 2 in 12,222. Both patients were treated and no infants were born with congenital syphilis. The cost of the screening programme for this period was estimated at $9,778.
