Summary : A retrospective study of patients following vaginal hysterectomy showed a postoperative morbidity of 75%. A trial of a single preoperative intravenous injection of cephalothin sodium to patients about to undergo vaginal hysterectomy showed a significant (P < 0.01) reduction in postoperative morbidity.
