Summary: A series of patients in whom labour was induced by amniotomy and Syntocinon administration by the Cardiff Infusion System (C.I.S.) is presented. The problems of this equipment, both mechanical and technical, are discussed. Induction is more effective in terms of the reduced amniotomy‐established labour and ammotomy‐delivery intervals, but experienced supervision is required once labour is established. There is some evidence that the duration of labour may be increased by the use of oxytocin, this probably being related to the type of contraction induced by oxytocin administration.
