Summary: The use of heparin impregnated thread in collection tubes, used for fetal scalp blood sampling, is associated with a decrease in measured pH. The pH is altered by the threads used rather than by heparin or dilution. This change may be eliminated by soaking the thread in alcohol for 48 hours prior to impregnation with heparin.
