Summary: Two hundred patients who had infants of normal weight and 100 patients who had small‐for‐dates infants had ultrasonic cephalometry performed within a week of delivery. Fetal weight was estimated using Hellman's formula. Fetal weight estimations were determined with an absolute mean error of 278 g. in the normal weight group and 302 g. in the small‐for‐dates group. However, the wide variations in neonatal weight with a given value of estimated biparietal diameter in both groups makes the method rather unsatisfactory.
