SUMMARY Oestrogencontaining oral contraceptives increase many of the factors involved in thrombosis, presumably as a result of hepatic enzyme‐induction, Clinical and pathological data suggest a special liability to thrombotic complications and retrospective statistical surveys appear to have confirmed an increased mortality and morbidity. It is possible that the diminished oestrogen content of oral contraceptives now in use may be diminishing the risk.
