Summary: A study of the obstetrical hazards in 1,000 patients with uncomplicated prolongation of pregnancy revealed a highly significant increase in the incidence of fetal distress (× 2) and perinatal mortality (× 10) without any appreciable difference in the Caesarean section and oxytocin drip rates in those patients who were induced after the 43rd week of gestation compared with those who were induced at the 43rd week of gestation.
