The Pacific Ocean covers an area of 68 million square miles in which are scattered many island groups. In the Eastern area Samoa, Tonga, Cook and Tokelau are the main groups. In the south‐west Pacific area are Papua New Guinea, the Solomons, New Hebrides and New Caledonia.
