Summary The spontaneous delivery of the fetus presenting by the breech is compared with the classical “Liverpool” technique. Manoeuvres of the classical type enforce a mechanism almost diametrically opposite to that which is anatomically and physiologically correct. The Bracht manoeuvre, which is based on the latter principle, is described and the results obtained in 101 deliveries are presented and are compared with the overall results in 457 breech deliveries.
