Summary Three cases of foetal ascites are described. Each was characterized by obstruction to labour after delivery of the head and in each case the head was avulsed before the final diagnosis was made. Mention is made of other causes of gross abdominal distension and the possibility of antenatal radiological diagnosis is discussed.
