Intestinal obstruction is extremely uncommon during pregnancy. According to Baker et al. (1953) the incidence varies from 0.0014 to 0.0034 per cent. Smith and Bartlett (1940) found only one case in over 66,000 deliveries. Hansen (1941) collected 84 cases from the literature.
