summary A review of 1041 personal vaginal hysterectomies has been presented. Reference is made to mortality, morbidity, complications and limitations of this operation. Mortality of two in this series is in accord with that of other statistical reviews. This confirms the claim that vaginal hysterectomy has an appreciably lower mortality rate than the abdominal operation. Serious complications were virtually negligible whilst post‐operative comfort of the patient was improved, period of convalescence shortened and return to full activity expedited.
