Summary:1  One hundred and thirty‐five of a personal series of 233 vacuum extractions are described in detail and the whole series of 233 is summarised. 2  The vacuum extractor is considered safe for mother and baby. Poor foetal results are thought to be due to over‐persistence with the method and bad selection of cases. 3  The efficiency and versatility of the vacuum extractor is demonstrated and its use in operative obstetrics is discussed. 4  The writer does not think the time has yet come for the vacuum extractor to replace the forceps completely.
